What do you do if you find an injured or orphaned glider?
  • Assess whether the casualty is treatable or suffering badly and beyond recovery
  • See if glider is female by checking for pouch and young
  • Keep the glider in soft, warm, dark place until you reach home
  • Remember it will be frightened so be careful not to be scratched or bitten
  • Handle gently and as little as possible
  • Place in secure, darkened container to allow glider to calm down
  • Ring Parks and Wildlife - it is illegal keep native animals without a permit
  • Keep out of reach of small children and pets
  • Keep loud noise to a minimum
  • If asked to transport to a registered carer use a warm, dark container

Did you know gliders sieve the fibre out of their food so well they leave tiny crescent shaped "spits" moulded to the exact shape of their palette, where they had their meal?
